MEET HALLIE (she/her)
Hallie graduated from Alliant International University, under the education of Ben Caldwell, who later became her clinical supervisor as she built her client community. She has been licensed since 2010, supervising since 2018. Her practice has evolved throughout the years and now exists as a telehealth business where she sees mostly queer folks, utilizing Mate’s compassionate inquiry to mine for personal truth.
She also leads an associate practice where she provides supervision to a team of six. (link to Hallie G Therapy and New Wave Therapy here). She is 45 years old. A mother to two. Queer. Serbian descent. Runner, camper, and reader.
MEET SARAH (she/her)
Sarah is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in California. Her clinical work has evolved over time and is rooted in relational, reflective therapy that supports clients in deepening self-trust and living with greater intention. Sarah launched her private practice in 2021 after working under Hallie’s supervision. In 2024, Sarah began supervising and has been leading a team of associate therapists since then. She finds much joy in mentoring clinicians, supporting their growth, confidence, and sense of belonging in the work through thoughtful supervision and relationship-building.
She is a California native, married, and a mother of two. A lover of sunshine, an avid podcast enthusiast, and someone who values connection and curiosity both personally and professionally.
How The Lightwell was born….
Hallie and Sarah’s story began when Hallie hired Sarah as her very first associate. They continued to work closely together, and years later—after Sarah had built a healthy solo practice—Hallie encouraged her to expand and start supervising associates of her own. With Hallie’s practical and relational mentorship, Sarah pushed past the intimidation of that next step and eventually grew her practice to include six associate therapists.
What surprised her most was how capable she felt once she had the right support, encouragement, and knowledge behind her. But not everyone has someone to guide them through this process, no matter their stage—and that’s exactly where The Lightwell was born.
We created this space to be the light, clarity, and grounded guidance you’ve been craving. We know what it feels like to have questions, to feel confused, overwhelmed, or stuck. The Lightwell gives you the tools to get started, the mentorship to make your practice truly your own, and the community to support you every step of the way.
PAYING ATTENTION.
SPEAKING UP.
Running a therapy practice in California—especially as a solo practitioner or small group owner—is not simple. The laws, BBS statutes, and regulatory shifts are complex, evolving, and often feel written without real consideration for the day-to-day realities of supervisors and practice owners.
At Lightwell, we are paying close attention. We are engaged in the process ourselves and finding creative ways to honor all the requirements.
Together, we actively track changes in California law and BBS regulations, interpret what they mean in practice, and advocate when those rules create unnecessary barriers for ethical, sustainable care. We believe it should be possible to run a compliant, values-aligned practice without burning out, breaking even, or constantly feeling at risk.
You don’t have to navigate this alone. Joining us–and this community–means that you have a group of likeminded folks along for the ride with you. We might bring your attention to something you would have missed. We might offer an approach you hadn’t considered. And fundamentally, we’re just here for any challenge you encounter, bringing experience, enthusiasm and understanding.
